Nowadays, basalt fiber industry is against fiberglass (including Alkali-resistant fiberglass, E-glass and ECR-glass), carbon fiber, aramid fiber, polyvinyl fiber and so on. However, the major competitors are e-glass, AR-glass and carbon fiber. For the first stage, because of the basalt fiber manufacturing unit cost is higher than E-glass but the performance is basically lower than carbon fiber and the performance of basalt fiber is all better than AR-glass but the price is with the same level of AR-glass. So for the first stage, it is wise to replace the AR-glass market with its better performance but competitive prices. For the second stage, because the raw material of basalt stone is 10% of raw materials of fiberglass in cost and basalt fiber is purely from basalt stone while there is no toxic input and no toxic output. So bigger furnace and bushing should be a good solution to low down the unit cost of basalt fiber but have better performance than regular e-glass. For the third stage, theoretically speaking, we can develop better certain property products such as higher modulus, higher strength or better chemical resistance after we have known the properties of all elements of basalt stone.
