Not all of the basalt stone can be used to produce basalt fiber, especially the FeO/Fe2O3 portion, Ca and Na elements should be restrictly required. For the material stable performance and consistency, the basalt stones should be firstly tested to get the element analysis then all the required stones from different quarries should be mixed uniformly so that the fiber forming should be easier and less broken fiber occurred and unit product output should be higher. However, basalt fiber manufacturers should know more about the elements of the basalt fiber. For example, what kind of stone can get higher tensile strength, or modulus, or chemical resistance or anything else? Then this certain raw material formula should be used to produce specified basalt fiber like E-glass, C-glass, S-glass. ECR-glass and so on. This is the fundamental research and development to get the material data base for knowing every aspect of the material. Then the production engineering R&D can be added.
